Self Discipline

Self-control is a learned skill.

Our culture of instant gratification makes it harder for today's parents to teach kids self-discipline and self-control. At Jai Johnson's Karate Center we help to teach children about the value of patience, the significance of decision-making, and the importance of making good choices. The ability to wait, to think before acting and to understand potential consequences of their actions is paramount to an individual’s success. Karate is an art based in patience, waiting, thinking and understanding.

Strong Mind - Strong Body

Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States. It has been linked to increased risk for a number of medical conditions including cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and abnormal glucose tolerance), asthma, sleep apnea and Type 2 diabetes. There are also psychosocial risks. Obese children and adolescents are often victims of social discrimination. This experience can cause low self-esteem which, in turn, can affect academic and social performance that can continue into adulthood. At Jai Johnson's Karate Center we provide a safe and nurturing environment to workout in. Each class is a full body workout that's fun and engaging. We also encourage kids to stay active outside of the school.

Self Defense

Our world is an uncertain place. Bullies, peer pressure, and other potentially dangerous situations are more prevalent than ever before for today's youth.  The instructors at Jai Johnson's Karate Center give children the tools they need to help determine whether a situation may be a dangerous one and how they can avoid, or remove themselves from these types of conditions, and if necessary defend themselves. We teach a realistic, streetwise, self defense system that combines Karate, grappling, conflict resolution, life-skills, and bully-proofing so they can learn to defend themselves in virtually any situation.

Karate as a Sport

In the last 60 years, Karate has emerged as a form of competitive sport.

Organizations hold competitions (tournaments) from local to international level. Tournaments are designed to match members of opposing schools or styles against one another in kata, sparring and weapons demonstrations. They are often separated by age, rank and sex with potentially different rules or standards based on these factors.

Jai Johnson's Karate Center has produced a number of local, national, and world tournament champions. If you'e interested in competing at tournaments, we would be happy to help you explore your options.
